Project Description

The HTS EMPOWER project aims to address current challenges for efficient deployment of satellite communications ground infrastructure by completing the development, tailoring and demonstration of a solution that Integrasys has been developing over the last couple of years, named HTSInstrument. 

Integrasys plans to strengthen its position in SatCom market, by developing new concept of tools for self-installing and configuring SatCom ground infrastructure, and taking benefit of a growing market boosted by the emerging High Throughput Satellite technology (HTS). HTS are new communication satellites that provide usually around 20 times more throughput, compared to a classic satellite for the same amount of allocated orbital spectrum. This significantly reduces the cost-per-bit and improves the competitiveness of space technology, which means that satellite is suddenly an economically viable alternative to other types of communication technologies, especially in those hard to reach areas. More than two Tbps of HTS capacity is projected to fill the sky over the next ten years. That presents new opportunities across nearly every market.

Integrasys plans to adapt and extend its tools for deployment of SatCom ground infrastructure to this new HTS technology, and so, solving one of the challenges arising by this new technology: The high cost of deployment. The solution proposed focuses on Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT), a two-way satellite ground station with a dish antenna that is smaller than 3.8 meters.

The HTSInstrument speeds up the deployment process whilst minimizing Operational Expenses (OPEX), by allowing the end customer to easily install the VSAT in minutes:

  • By fully addressing the VSAT installation and service commissioning.

  • By implementing a simple and powerful concept: to provide the measurements gathered in the satellite NOC (Network Operation Center) to the VSAT installers in the field, and display it on smartphones, tablets, PC.

  • To Install several demonstration systems

  • To reduce time-to-market

  • Be part of conference panel discussions, events and working groups in this market segment. With this action we will disseminate, promote it as the standard method for HTS-based VSAT deployment and find new customers and resellers

  • Increase company’s knowledge at a technical level (new technologies, requirements, production processes, development tools etc.) and at a market level (new customer needs, new business models)

  • To specify a final commercialization and production plan.
