CABSINET
CABSINET was a project within the EC ACTS framework which aimed at developing a demonstrator to make feasible evaluating the performance of the two layer Macrocell/Microcell 40 GHz and 5.8 GHz cellular system for interactive television (VoD) and fast Internet services, in both rural and urban environments and supporting both fixed and nomadic terminals.
The technologies involved in this development were based upon wideband transmission standards, MPEG2 for digital video compression, OFDM and QPSK digital modulations, as defined by the video broadcasting standards DVB-T, and the DAVIC specification for digital video architectures. The integration of IP services with video services is based on the DVB-SI DAT standard.
Integrasys participated with an effort of about 3 man/years in the following areas:
-
Specification and development of communication software for the user terminal interface.
-
Integration and testing of the subsystems of the project, both in its base-band and RF sections.
The other partners in the consortium were: CRL, North West Labs, Alcatel Telspace, FUB, CSELT, TDF, Thomcast, Queen's University of Belfast, CCETT, AQL, Bosch, Deutsche Telekom, SETELSA, Thomson Multimedia, VTT Electronics, Cantabria University, NTUA, Sydney University, Padova University, and the Peruggia University.
